About the Essential Assistants Hands-on Course
This hands-on course is aimed at dental assistants and hygienists who would like to clinically support the dentist who has been on the Essential Course series with Dr. Ian Buckle.
This comprehensive course is designed for the dental assistants looking to enhance their expertise in the rapidly evolving field of digital dentistry.
Participants will learn essential skills in intraoral scanning, 3D printing, dental photography, and effective communication with dental laboratories, all of which play a crucial role in modern dental care.
The Essential Assistant Hands-on Course is taught in English, but we with the possibility of asking questions in Danish and translation from English to Danish if/when needed.
During this mixed lecture and hands-on course you will learn:
Intraoral Scanning
Explain the advantages of intraoral scanning over traditional impressions.
Prepare patients and the scanning environment for efficient digital impressions.
Operate an intraoral scanner to capture accurate full-arch and quadrant scans.
Recognize and correct common scanning errors such as distortion, missing data, and poor bite registration.
Transfer scanned files to dental software for diagnosis, treatment planning, and laboratory collaboration.
Dental Photography
Understand the importance of dental photography in patient documentation, treatment planning, and case presentations.
Identify and operate different types of dental cameras (DSLR, intraoral, and mobile-based systems).
Capture high-quality intraoral and extraoral photographs following standardized protocols.
Adjust camera settings (ISO, aperture, and shutter speed) for optimal image clarity.
Store, manage, and securely share digital images while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
Laboratory Communications
Understand the role of digital communication between dental offices and laboratories.
Accurately upload and send digital impressions, prescriptions, and case details to dental labs.
Use laboratory communication software to track case progress and ensure timely delivery of restorations.
Review digital designs (CAD/CAM files) and collaborate with lab technicians to refine treatment plans.
Ensure quality control by verifying case specifications before submitting to the lab.
3D Printing in Dentistry
Understand the applications of 3D printing in creating models, crowns, and dental appliances.
Assist in preparing digital files for 3D printing, including error checking and optimization.
Operate and maintain dental 3D printers, including resin-based (SLA/DLP) and filament-based (FDM) systems.
Perform post-processing steps such as washing, curing, and finishing 3D-printed models.
Follow safety and infection control protocols when handling 3D printing materials.
Integration and Workflow Optimization
Develop a seamless workflow incorporating digital photography, scanning, lab communication, and 3D printing.
Troubleshoot common technical and procedural challenges in digital workflows.
Maintain and clean digital equipment to ensure accuracy and longevity.
Apply GDPR guidelines and data security protocols when handling digital patient records.
Stay informed about advancements in digital dentistry to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
